Together We Grow: The Smart Healthy Way

As a continuation of the Health Living project officially launched in the previous scholastic year, the school organised two weeks activity for whole school community. Major targeted areas:                                Germ Attack!                                The Colourful Fruit and Vegetable Way!                                Let’s Move and Groove! This year our school organised two Healthy Living Weeks entitled: Together We Grow: The Smart Healthy Way! Germ Attack!:  The subject of the AH1N1 virus, the frequent need to wash hands and the various ways how to stop the spread of germs. The Colourful Fruit and Vegetable Way!: Organised to emphasise the need of the daily consumption of different coloured fruit and vegetables. Let’s Move and Groove!: Focused on the need of physical exercise.  Various sport entities collaborated to organise games for all members of the school community. Bike days were also organised. The Fit Kids Dance Students dancing to the Fit Kids Song The foyer was full with children’s work and information stands.  A school-based competition was organised, wherein students had to design posters on the themes chosen for this open day. Parents took an active part in the event, being invited for the special assembly, attended a talk on checking the spread of germs and later joined their children in hands-on activities organised by class teachers. These activities included: poster and chart making, treasure hunt in the school front garden, cookery sessions, interactive whiteboard games and sports activities.  Talks were also organised with the help of personnel from the Home Economics Seminar Centre and Health and Safety Teachers from the Health and Safety Unit, Education Directorates. Children, school staff, parents, friends and villagers from Safi village welcome spring and summer each year with a renewed commitment to environmental issues and physical exercise.  This year, the school community at St Benedict College SAFI Primary in conjunction with the SAFI EkoSkola Committee decided that a high profile celebration of cycling would be a renewed commitment to these two goals.
