Limestone Heritage – Cultural heritage

Who's Participating: St Joseph School, Blata l-Bajda

Our year five girls visited the Limestone Heritage and learnt about our natural stone.  They even experienced working with the stone. At the Limestone Heritage, the girls were shown around an exhibition whilst listening on headphones to the history of the building industry in Malta.  They were told where the stone comes from and methods used to work this stone where described to them.  They could also see the different tools and vehicles that were used in the past and the way the stone turners and builders worked.  As they walked their way through the exhibition, the girls could see for themselves...

Saving Water – Saving Nature

Who's Participating: St Francis School, Cospicua

During this scholastic year various activities were held to raise awareness about saving water.  Students were made aware that simple actions can substantially cut down water use. Class teachers emphasised that water needs to be used wisely and that waste of water could result in dangerous imbalances in the functioning of nature. Students were taught how to use less  water for their daily activities and how they can use water carefully indoors as well as outdoors. Global issues – Sustaining our world

Who's Participating: St Francis School, Cospicua

In a Year 5 Class, the class teacher delivered a lesson about ‘Renewable Energy’. After mentioning the 5 renewable sources used most, class teacher told the students that as a class they were going to tackle ‘Wind Energy’ –  Wind Turbines’ A wind turbine model was bought and built by a particular parent; so that it helps, the students understand the set task. Besides all, class teacher explained to her students that Wind Turbines use large blades to catch the wind. Then when the wind blows, the blades are forced round driving a turbine, which generates electricity. She continued...

The school yard is used for different activities throughout the scholastic year. At our school, teachers and students are encouraged to value the school yard by playing various games during lunch time and also throughout the day. Enjoying ourselves during lunch break. Nature studies creates responsibilities – Litter

Who's Participating: St Francis School, Cospicua

Various interesting discussions about how to be responsible for a healthy Environment were held in the classrooms during the second term.   Topics like ‘Keeping a clean environment’, ‘Living in a Healthy Environment’, ‘Towards a Clean Nature’, ‘Nature studies creates responsibilities’ and ‘L-indafa kollox u kullimkien’  were all discussed as a class. As a home assignment, the students were asked to look for information and for some pictures at home about the related tasks.
