Energy Audit of the School Premises

Who's Participating: Gian Franġisk Abela Junior College

The project has 4 phases. During phase 1 the months and days with the highest energy consumption by will be identified and reasons for such high consumptions will be researched. Phase 2 involves students studying each area of the school in the context of energy consumption. Studying an area involves identifying the objects that consume energy and studying for how long these are switched on during the week. Phase 3 involves the students researching about and finding solutions to decrease the energy consumption of the area that they would have studied. Appreciating the environment – Dinja Waħda

The students are encouraged to appreciate the different aspects of the environment focusing on biodiversity and the various creatures found in Malta. Throughout the year teachers prepare activities to help students understand and learn the beauties of the World that surrounds them, appreciate them and feel the need to take care of them. The children realise that biodiversity is on decline as a result of the way we are living and because of this many creatures and their habitats are disappearing.   more

Fun Walk for Trees

On the 7th April eight schools ranging from primary to secondary walked from Burmarrad in a fun walk that led to the newly renovated Salini Park. Schools participating in this activity were encouraged to organise fund raising activities to collect money for the 34U campaign. Upon arrival the students were greeted by the Hon. George Pullicino (Minister for Resources and Rural affairs), participating schools donated the sum of €605. Mr. Vincent Attard president of Nature Trust Malta also donated 200 trees to the Hon. On the 26th February the Hon. George Pullicino, Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs, launched a campaign to increase awareness about the conservation of water. The Minister presented the Moving Drop, a sculpture made out of recycled plastic bottles to St Nicholas College, Girls Secondary Rabat, as this locality marked the start of the aqueduct route. The moving drop symbolising the aqueduct route was passed round to fifteen schools, these schools both state and non-state posted in the drop water-conservation messages.
